"Disruption: The role of image in communication."

Breaking the Mold of Communication

This picture suggests a change in the way we as a socitey are moving towards how we communicate with each other. The written word is becoming less prominent, and other forms of communication such as pictures are beginning to take the lead. This particualr picture suggests " breaking the mold" and creating a new way to communicate. One day the written word may become a thing of the past as we move foward as a society becoming closer together world wide through the use of technology.
Quote
“We’re tiptoeing into a potentially very deep and interesting new way of communicating,” said Mitchell Stephens
I feel that this quote sums up what the author of the blog is trying to explain to the reader that although the idea of using pictures in a new way is different it is also exciting at the same time. One simple picture can convey a large message with just a single click. The author telling the reader that picture communication is definately on the rise, and to have an open mind to it's advantages. To say that he is tiptoeing suggests that changing the way people percieve what communication is may take some time, but picture communication may have a lot to offer.

  2. I really enjoyed the quote and the picture you chose to go along with it. I am a visual person. Being an art teacher and all, visual images are what I first look at. My parents always laughed at me because I hated reading instructions. I would always complete the task through the pictures. Also, you are right, our society is breaking the mold in how we communicate. I think it is so interesting just to think back 10 to15 years ago when text messaging was just starting to get popular. Now, technology is growing so fast that we are moving from text to images. You wonder how communication will change in the next 10 to 15 years from now.

  3. The image you chose was great! and perfect for what the article was talking about. Email is definitely not something young people spend much time doing anymore. I love taking and sending pictures myself to tell a story. I think the reason young people are using the medium more often is because of how easy it is...you don't really have to think too much, at least not the way you do when you're writing something to someone. The images are certainly creative, and in most cases can be understood globally.

  4. It even worked for your visual metaphor that there are words of sentiment on the candy heart. I think that helps drive your point that spoken and written communication is becoming a thing of the past.

  5. Awesome quote! I wouldn't say it's a new way of communicating, but a medium that can now be used by almost everyone and shared with ease. I am not sure that I get the same meaning from the picture as you did, but I can see where you are coming from.
